Mario Moretti Polegato
Mario Moretti Polegato was born in 1952, in Crocetta del Montello, right
in the Alpine foothills, north-west of Treviso, an area renown for its
small-medium entrepreneurial calling. As soon as he had obtained his degrees
in Wine Technology and Law, he went to work in the family’s three-generation
wine and agricultural business.
In the 90s he created the “breathable shoe” and today is Geox
S.p.A.’s chairman and leading shareholder of the group.
Since 1997, Mario Moretti Polegato has been Honorary General Consul for
Rumania for the North East of Italy.
He is also on the boards of directors of several, key Italian companies as well as being Member of the Executive Council of Confindustria (Association of Italian Industries).
Mr. Polegato also spends time teaching the “Intellectual Property” in major European and Italian universities. The ESCP-EAP Business School has awarded him with the honorary degree of “Affiliate Professor of Entrepreneurship” thanks to his dedication to lecturing. During the past months, he has taught at the University of Florence, University of Pisa, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Federico II University of Naples, Catholic University of Lisbon, MIT of Boston and University of Cambridge. He is also a member of the international non-profit organization
Aspen Institute, Italia. And as of 2004, has been founder and board member
of the ONLUS association “The Bridge of Smiles”, constituted
by the UIL syndicate and above mentioned Confindustria, which operates
in Rumania to help underprivileged, underage orphans.
