At the beginning of 2010, Geox unveils the Breathing Building, that it is both a store and a building, perfectly encapsulating all of Geox’s values.
The Group’s largest megastore reinvents the idea of sales space in order to communicate the concepts of lightness, style, wellness - as well as technology and innovation, which are at the heart of its “DNA” - using a whole new approach.
The store is 1,000 m² in size and its decorations are dominated by earth, beige and brown tones. Materials such as wood and Plexiglas have also been used to respectively emphasise the concepts of nature and transparency.
The layout of the store was specifically redesigned to endow the brand’s apparel lines with greater space as well as to flaunt the vast range of shoes available. The classic “sail” - which has been a feature of the furnishings of every Geox Shop, right from the start - has been replaced by tables, shelves and hangers, giving the products improved visibility. The cash desk was also conceived as a see-through display and is used to showcase a selection of shoe models.
Outside, the façade of the building features 734 stainless steel panels which can be opened and closed vertically, until they reach angles that range from 12° to 33°. The array of inclinations that can be used offer a striking scenic effect for walkers-by. At the same time, they provide an important air-conditioning function, reducing the building’s energy consumption levels. The slats work just like a “second skin”. They protect the rooms inside the building from the penetration of heat or cold, and provide an air space for natural ventilation between the slats and its walls. In this manner, the systems' consumption levels are reduced, since it can cut back on the use of both heating and air-conditioning.
